CONCEPT: If you're looking to play boring and snobby cocktail drinking Jazz, move on... and if you're looking to show off how fancy and modernistic you can play, fagettaboutit... I'm looking for musicians who respect old school organ groove, but have an equal love of everything from blues and funk to Philly soul, and what to take the music forward. Although I have a deep love for standards, bop and swing, I'd like to have a group that also does grooved up versions of stuff that also has an appeal to people who came up on "back in the day" stuff; however, also has the groove organ tradition mixed in. Ideal members of this group should be familiar with the Jimmy, Wes, Grant, Charles Earland, Groove Holmes, McDuff thing YET also listen to or came up on Donny Hathaway, Gil Scott-Heron, The Intruders, Curtis, O'Jays etc. and want to rehearse and develop a repertoire that's much different from what many other organ groups are doing.
There will be two versions of this group. One with older more experienced players and a student ensemble. Please let me know which one you'd like to try out for in your initial correspondence.
